Australian punter Ben Graham is again on track to play in the NFL playoffs, with his side Detroit sealing their place in the post-season with a 38-10 win over San Diego on Saturday.

Matthew Stafford tossed three touchdown passes in the opening half to craft the win, which ensured the Lions would make the playoffs for the first time since 1999.

“Merry Xmas!! Congrats to the @DetroitLionsNFL, playoffs here we come,” Graham posted on Twitter.

The 38-year-old averaged 35.7 yards from his three punts against San Diego.

The left-footer has played six games for Detroit this season since signing as a free agent in November, averaging 43.8 yards from 25 punts at his fourth NFL club.

Graham, who played 219 AFL games with Geelong before deciding to pursue an NFL career in 2004, became the first Australian to play in the Super Bowl when he represented Arizona in 2009.

However, Graham’s side lost 27-23 in the decider and this year he was released by the Cardinals mid-season.

Detroit have won three consecutive games after a seven-game slump to earn a wild-card spot in the playoffs.
