The war of words between the Geale and Adama camps continued at today’s weigh-in, but it at least didn’t reach the level of the recent historics at the Dereck Chisora and Sonny Bill Williams events.

Osumanu Adama’s trainer mouthy Joseph Awionga continued his verbal barrage before the weigh-in, getting into a heated argument with Daniel Geale’s manager in the lift lobby.

Awionga has slammed Geale before the fight, at press conferences in Sydney and Hobart, and his antics were on show for the around 50 or so media and hangers-on there for the Hobart event.

The Adama camp has already stated its intention for a rematch if it loses the fight, though there seems little chance of a rematch happening.

But the weigh-in itself kicked off without a fuss, Adama weighing in at 72.45kg and Geale at 73kg. The Tasmanian is expected to lose the 400 grams to make the weight tomorrow with little fuss. Geale’s promoter Gary Shaw had a few choice words for Awionga after the fracas [see video].

In the other blockbuster clash, fellow Aussie world titleholder Billy Dib came in at 58.4kg with his Mexican opponent Eduardo Escobedo 58.75kg. Both fighters were just over the allowable weight.

The Dib-Escobedo bout has had its own share of bad blood and mouthing off in the past few days, with Escobedo calling Dib a “pussy”, but there was no evidence of it there today.

Geale and Dib both look fit and lean, confident and hungry to defend their titles. The Australian boxing world and the people of Tasmania are in for a massive card tomorrow night, as two local fighters seek to keep the victories rolling in and maintain their status at the top of the sport.
