Billy Dib won’t run in his IBF featherweight world title bout with Eduardo Escobedo tonight, according to Dib’s trainer Billy Hussein, with the Sydney fighter to “set traps” for the Mexican.
Hussein is one of Australia’s most talented boxing trainers, having handled multiple world champion Vic Darchinyan along with the likes of Dib, Paul Fleming and Nedal Hussein.
Hussein said Escobedo wants to draw Dib into a “phone box” fight, but Dib will use his height and reach to target the Mexican fighters’ body.
“We’ve got to set traps in the ring,” he said.
“We’ve got to be smart how Billy attacks him. We have to create angles.”
Hussein spoke to the Roar about Dib’s rivalry with Escobedo and his plans for cracking the US in the future. He also gave his thoughts on a superfight against WBA champion Chris John.
