The Wests Tigers fell away badly against Parramatta last week and will need to produce an eighty-minute performance if they are to secure their third straight victory when they face the Gold Coast Titans away from home. Join us for live scores and commentary from 7.30pm AEST.
Despite defeating the Eels last Sunday, Tigers coach Tim Sheens was once again left frustrated by his team’s inability to finish off the opposition.
Leading 31-nil with just over ten minutes remaining, the Tigers suffered a major collapse in defence as Parramatta piled on 30 unanswered points late in the second half.
Despite securing their second consecutive victory, Tim Sheens would have been in the ear of many of his players this week, stressing that such a fadeout cannot be tolerated at NRL level.
On the back of a large spray from Sheens, the Tigers should come out firing tonight against the struggling Titans.
The Gold Coast fought admirably against Brisbane last week, but once again found themselves on the wrong end of the scoreboard.
The Titans made far too many handling errors last week and were punished accordingly en route to a 26-6 defeat.
To make matters worse, Titans captain Scott Prince will miss tonight’s match through injury and this will severely hamper the Gold Coast’s ability to post points.
Prediction
Bar their last ten minutes against the Eels, the Tigers are starting to build momentum, with key figures Benji Marshall, Robbie Farah, Chris Lawrence and Lote Tuqiri all starring last week.
Marshall in particular is now beginning to fire and will prove difficult to contain tonight for the Titans.
In their past two victories, the Tigers have started rather conservatively in a bid to establish good territorial dominance against their opposition.
If they can do the same tonight against the Titans then Tim Sheens’ men should have more than enough points in them to secure a comfortable victory tonight.
For the Titans to stand a chance tonight, forwards such as Luke Bailey, Ashley Harrison, Greg Bird and Nate Myles will all have to shine in unison to contain the Tigers attack.
If the preceding Titans players can shut down Marshall and Farah, the Tigers can frustrate themselves into error and thus lose their way in attack.
Overall, the longer this game stays close, the better it will be for the Titans. However, the Tigers will be desperate to make a statement tonight and a fast start could easily see them notch up their third straight win.
If they play to the final whistle.
Tigers by 14.
