Today we finish off the double-header Sunday of football with a massive game for both the Fremantle Dockers and Port Adelaide. We’ll have live updates from Patersons Stadium from 4.40pm AEST.

The Fremantle Dockers were mighty lucky last week. They scraped over the line against the Gold Coast Suns (who has been impressive at home in the last couple of games) without Nathan Fyfe or Aaron Sandilands.

They won’t have Fyfe back for a very long time, but key ruckman Aaron Sandilands makes his return in today’s game.

That’s all well and good for Freo – Sandi’s back, the Dockers should return to the winner’s circle, right?

It is an interesting theory, but Freo has a knack of winning plenty of ruck contests, yet have trouble turning that into inside 50’s and goals.

The midfield has struggled somewhat throughout the year. The likes of Michael Barlow, David Mundy and Stephen Hill have been inconsistent with each other meaning some flow from the middle of the ground has been stymied by their opposition.

If they can click today, the Dockers really should be able to get a win on the board. But, they will be relying on a small forward line including Hayden Ballantyne, Clancee Pearce and Matt de Boer.

The key forward of late has not necessarily been Matthew Pavich – but Zac Clarke. He’s been used as back-up ruckman, but now with Sandilands back, he can be used as a strong target.

Meanwhile, it’s been one heck of a week for the Port Adelaide Football Club. In South Australia, newspaper columnist Michelangelo Rucci has been scathing of the team saying their coach Matthew Primus should walk away as his players betrayed him in last week’s loss to Richmond.

Now, let’s try to set this straight. Sure, Port Adelaide in the second quarter last week were horrible. However the season hasn’t been one of pure disappointment for the club.

They started the season by beating St Kilda, then followed up with credible performances against Essendon, Sydney and Collingwood, then were probably twenty minutes away from winning the Showdown against cross-town rivals the Crows.

Then, thirty minutes of football has one M. Rucci in a total spin.

Now, come on. Talk about making a mountain out of a molehill! Port Adelaide has not been that bad.

But the pasting they’ve received in the press means there will need to be some sign of competitive form against Fremantle at Patersons Stadium today.

The Power had hoped to get Jay Schulz back for this week’s game after a scratched eye in the Showdown, but he’s been delayed for one more week. So goalscoring needs to come down to the likes of Justin Westhoff, John Butcher and Matthew Broadbent.

While the midfield will be led by Dom Cassisi and Brad Ebert, while his brother Brett will be invaluable around the ground.

If Port Adelaide can come away with a win today, which is quite possible if Fremantle play the way they did last week, I’d be very interested to read the reply from the newspaper the next day.

So make sure you join us for Fremantle and Port Adelaide from Patersons Stadium with live comments from the game. Have your input too below as we get ready for bouncedown at 4.40pm AEST.
