The circus known as the V8 Supercar Championship rolls back into Sydney this weekend as the 29-cars hit Eastern Creek Raceway, now known as Sydney Motorsport Park after a major re-development.

It is the ninth event on the V8 Supercar calendar, meaning following this event only five events remain.

The championship is already shaping up to a four horse race with no surprise that Team Vodafones’ Jamie Whincup and Craig Lowndes are near the pointy end on the championship ladder.

For fans of the blue oval their main hopes rely with the duo from Ford Performance Racing with Will Davison and Mark Winterbottom well within the mix when it comes to the hunt for championship glory.

2008 was the last time the V8 Supercar Championship rolled onto the circuit in a racing format, although all teams and drivers were at the circuit for the successful 2011 test day, with the overall round winner from four years ago being Will Davison who currently sits third in the championship.

The return to Sydney Motorsport Park came about when the V8 Supercars were unable to secure a further over-seas event and leaving the competition with a somewhat embarrassing ‘TBA’ sitting on its racing schedule.

With the 2012 Championship sitting at such a precarious position a good weekend on a track that the drivers haven’t raced at competitively for four years could have a true detrimental effect to anyone’s championship hopes, with all eyes on the all conquering TeamVodafone line up who have somewhat dominated the season to date.
