Canterbury’s Josh Morris has paid tribute to Jamie Lyon and says the experienced Manly star centre is in the best form of his NRL career.

Lyon, who has turned his back on representative action to focus solely on playing for the Sea Eagles, has been outstanding during his side’s run of six straight wins.

Morris has also enjoyed the best season of his career, bouncing back from the memory of being dumped to NSW Cup last year.

In addition to forcing his way into the NSW side he’s also in the reckoning for Kangaroos spot in next month’s one-off Test against New Zealand in Townsville.

But the 26-year-old, who performed brilliantly against Greg Inglis during this year’s State of Origin series, is expecting a very difficult night when the Bulldogs take on the Sea Eagles in Friday’s opening game of the finals series.

“One thing you know about playing Manly is that you are going to be sore the next day,” he said.

“We’re under no illusion as to how tough it’s going to be.”

Lyon forms part of a formidable left edge along with Glenn Stewart, and Morris is under no illusions about the size of task he faces in keeping the former Parramatta man in check.

“He’s seems to be getting better with age,” Morris said.

“But I do like the clashes I have with Killer (Lyon). He’s a great player and every time I play against him I know I have to play better.”

Morris credited Canterbury coach Des Hasler with the improvement in his form this year, and said a heart-to-heart with the two-time premiership-winning coach was a huge help.

“At the start of the year he talked to everyone and we sat down and he told us where we had to pick up,” Morris said.

“After speaking to him I realised I had to get far more involved in games both in attack and defence and that is what I have tried to do this year.”
