Sheffield Wednesday’s talented young Australian striker Jarrod Kyle is looking to go out on loan to get a taste of first-team football.

Kyle, a 19-year-old from the Gold Coast, has been a star at Wednesday’s academy. Last season he top scored with 10 goals and was named as the Owls’ academy Player of the Year.

He also won the Goal of the Season Award in 2011-2012 for this 30-yard screamer against Sheffield United.

Kyle joined Wednesday three years ago after working with Total Football Academy, which is run by former Owl Adem Poric. He played his junior football with Mudgeeraba Soccer Club and Broadbeach United, and signed one-year professional contract with Wednesday in July.

With the Owls currently in 23rd place on the Championship table and mired in a relegation dogfight, Kyle has been playing in the Under-21s and is finding first-team opportunities scarce at the moment.

The Queenslander is hoping to secure a loan deal in the UK to further develop his game.

I chatted with Kyle about his time in South Yorkshire, his experiences at Sheffield Wednesday and his plans for the future. We also spoke about the challenges he has faced in the UK and his thoughts on football in the Gold Coast.
