The 25 year old Italian, Andrea Antonelli has passed away, following a crash during the World Supersport race in Moscow, the 8th round of the World Championship.

Following torrential rain throughout the previous first race of the World Superbikes, the Supersport category took to the track, in very slick and wet conditions making it very difficult to see much of anything, due to the amount of spray.

The race was quickly red flagged after the crash between Antonelli and fellow Italian Lorenzo Zanetti.

Antonelli was immediately tended to by medical staff, but it was confirmed the Go Eleven Kawasaki rider tragically succumbed to his injuries.

The 25 year old had competed in 22 World Supersport races coming into this round of the championship, where he had previously graduated from the 600 and 1000 Superstock category.

Currently running seventh in the World Championship with Kawasaki, and a fourth place his best result to date this season, coming from the Spanish round in Aragon.

Another fatality on the track, adding up to the number of incidents that have occurred in 2013 already.

Our condolences go to Antonelli’s family and friends.
