It’s been nine months since Casey Stoner left the MotoGp championship to pursue other interests.

And while rumours out of the Honda camp don’t confirm that Stoner will return just yet, there are a wealth of whispers that he may be back next year.

Casey has agreed to test ride both the current RC213V (which Marc Marquez took to victory at Laguna Seca last Sunday) and a prototype 2014 version of the bike in Japan at the Motegi circuit in early August.

He was approached by Honda and asked if he would complete a series of tests.

He of course obliged, stating that he had missed riding his bike but however, that was the only thing about the sport he has missed since retiring and that he was still happy with the decision he made last year.

This really shouldn’t come as much of a surprise to anyone in the know if you ask me.

Why wouldn’t you ask the fastest rider you know who isn’t already competing in the championship? I completely believe that it’s nothing more than this, I do however hope that I’m wrong.

However, the rumours will continue throughout the year. Perhaps the biggest will be that of a wild card entry at Phillip Island this year, which is a faint possibility.

Will this happen? I doubt it, especially seeing as though Marc Marquez and Dani Pedrosa are championship contenders this year.

I couldn’t see them bringing Stoner into the mix when two of their riders are fighting between each other and all while they’re fending off reigning world champion Jorge Lorenzo.

In my view they’d want Pedrosa or Marquez to take out the win this year, not Casey Stoner.

It does however make you wonder, could Stoner he stop the rise of Marc Marquez?

I don’t know. But what I do know is, there would almost certainly be fireworks.
