Selectors on the money with aggressive selections

I have to congratulate the Australian cricket selectors. I plumped for Shane Watson at three and I suggested Peter Siddle be rested – that shows great flexibility in the face of some pressure.

For as much as I would love to see them play, Steve Smith or Pete Siddle will be 12th man I would think.

I base this on the fact that James Faulkner is debuting at seven.

Mitchell Starc must play. Siddle has had a lot of bowling and Ryan Harris is vulnerable.

Smith looks defeated somewhat with the bat, but I Iove the fact that, if he plays, Nathan Lyon and he can share spin.

The quicks have had most impact in this series, but not being in London means one cannot gauge the Oval wicket.

Weather looks wonderful so I would be full of optimism, guardedly, if I were the Aussies.

So perhaps Chris Rogers and David Warner to open, Watson at three, Michael Clarke at four, Smith at five, Brad Haddin six, Faulkner seven, Starc eight, Harris or Siddle nine and Lyon 10.

I am so pleased an Australian team is finally chock full of potential bowlers, because James Pattinson was overbowled at Lord’s and fell to a back injury.

Tim Bresnan did the same at Durham. Pat Cummins too.

If Australia keeps developing the batting strength of its all-rounders, it will become world champion in three forms of the game.

Glenn Maxwell, Moises Henriques, Ashton Agar, Faulkner and anyone else who bowls and develops their batting will be a huge asset.

Well done selectors and advisors.
