Why the Dockers will win the Premiership

Two powerhouses of AFL football will go head to head in a moment all children dream about when Hawthorn and Fremantle will go against each other for the most prized possession in football, the Premiership flag. But who takes it home?

Both teams are two amazing groups with two very different playing styles.

Hawthorn will go into the match hot favourites, but the question remains: Will they be able to withstand the pressure that Fremantle are so good at applying?

Fremantle are without a doubt the best defensive side in the comp, but Hawthorn are the best offensive side in the comp.

Lance Franklin, Jarryd Roughead and Cyril Rioli are the best trio in offensive football at the moment and at any moment they are a hard group to stop.

But the defensive group of Luke McPharlin, Michael Johnson and Zac Dawson are a definite match for them.

This match will be won in Fremantle’s defensive pressure – if they can keep up the pressure they kept against Sydney then they will win the match.

There are so many key matchups, but I am going to focus on the ones I think will be where the match is won.

Ryan Crowley has been in the headlines lately about how good he is at tagging and how he bends the rules.

I think that Crowley will end up manning up on Sam Mitchell. He is so good at providing Hawthorn the run that they desperately need and if Crowley can cut him off, he will be cutting off a vital part of Hawthorn’s midfield.

The match up between Brian Lake and Matthew Pavlich will be a huge one. If Brian Lake can cut off Matthew Pavlich’s scoring, then he will be able to shut down Fremantle’s scoring and effectively win the match.

The wet conditions will also favour Fremantle, and the purple haze will be in all its glory.

With an all-class midfield and the best ruckmen in the competition Fremantle should easily win the midfield clearances.

So the stage is set for Fremantle to win their first Grand Final. With the best midfield, best defensive pressure and the perfect conditions. I can’t see Freo losing this one.

Fremantle by 17 points.
