Test quick Peter Siddle has struck physically and on the scoreboard as Victoria push for victory in their Sheffield Shield clash with Western Australia at the MCG.
Set a target of 381, the Warriors were 2-95 at lunch on Saturday’s final day, with opener Marcus North on 42 and Will Bosisto on 14.
Siddle, who had forecast the short ball could be a key weapon in Australia against England’s batsmen when the Ashes series starts later in November, made good use of it on Saturday.
He had struck young opener Cameron Bancroft on the helmet in a fiery opening spell late on Friday.
Siddle did it again in Saturday’s fourth over, as Bancroft’s effort to duck a sharp short ball failed badly, the ball crashing into the front of his helmet.
Both player and helmet were checked for damage and, while the helmet had to be replaced, Bancroft stayed – but lasted just one more delivery.
It was another Siddle bouncer, which the opener fended through to wicketkeeper Matthew Wade.
No.3 John Rogers (30) stuck around with North for 73 minutes, but fell to a poor shot, guiding seamer John Hastings straight to gully.
