The NFL’s sporting showcase was somewhat of an anti climax that was over in the first fifteen minutes.

For the neutrals it was a disappointing game that did not live up to the hype, and for the fans that attended, it definitely did not justify the price of the ticket, even if you are a fan of Bruno Mars.

The match demonstrated that football is the ultimate team game.

Getting the basics correct is the key to winning football games which was the ethos of the Seahawks over the past few years.

They progressively worked their way up from being part of the worst conference in football just three years ago to becoming Super Bowl champion.

How did they do this?

The answer is Pete Carroll. He is a coach whose pedigree has dated back to the late 70s.

His approach to coaching is refreshing and his style, unique. He instils an air of confidence to his players, accepting their whole character and personality.

He focuses on what they can do as opposed to what they can’t and as a result has created the most efficient team in the NFL.

This team is great because he focused on all facets of it.

Many coaches around the league focus on their play makers, whether that be their quarterback, running back or great defence and build their team around them, but for Carroll all parts are equal.

“I wanted to create a team that was so good that they couldn’t be beaten anywhere”, Carroll said on NFL Primetime after the game.

“That was a team that was really hard to beat”. This team, backed by their mythical ‘12th’ man had an aura of invincibility around them the whole season and that starts from coaching.

Carroll has approached this team in an “innovative” way according to Steve Young. He has developed a way of understanding his players in all aspects of their lives.

He understands each of his players psyche and has guided them to become better people all round.

“We try to take care of the whole person and love these guys up and figure out what they could possibly become and help them get there”, said Carroll.

From each person’s analysis he creates a unique vision tailored for them specifically and convinces them to buy into that idea, which he utilises as a formula for their own individual success.

Carroll further states that he treats each person equally and in the same way, and as a result everybody as one elevates which in turn makes for a perfect football team.

The Seahawks play great fundamental football which is what you need to get right to win games.

They simply closed in on all aspects of the team leaving no stone unturned.

Even the loss of their two best receivers in Percy Harvin and Sidney Rice for a majority of the year did not halt their success.

There is nothing better than a well drilled machine firing on all cylinders.

They have a great mixture of youth and experience and are now in a very stable position both in the backroom and on the field and are definitely the benchmark of the NFL by far.

The word dynasty is something that should not be used lightly but this team has all the makings of it. Great coach, clear identity, strong backroom staff and passionate fans.

The Seahawks toyed with the Broncos and Peyton Manning the entire game.

They dominated them from the first minute and were relentless in all aspects. They did not give Denver any breathing space which eventually broke them down and broke their spirits to a point where they lost belief.

This is what great teams do and Seattle demonstrated it in devastating fashion.

Having Peyton Manning who just had the best year statistically by a quarterback ever was insignificant. To shut him out in that fashion is certainly no mean feat.

We hear it time and time again, defence wins championships but no, good coaching wins championships and today the Seattle Seahawks proved that. Carroll’s experience has taught him that the best way to approach coaching is through emotions.

He constantly shows it on match day and on the practice field and is something that his players feed off.

He has turned a team full of misfits and late round draftees in an organisation that was coasting with no identity to a team of superstars and fans that many consider as the best in the league.

It is simply brilliant and the way he has done this is something that coaches around the world will now surely mirror, whatever the code.

“As long as we keep taking care of our guys, showing them that we respect them and care for them, we can ask anything from them, they give us every bit of their heart and soul and they do it willingly which makes for a very powerful chemistry”, Carroll said.

He loves and respects his players and they reciprocate.

He expresses his emotions just as the players do and therefore they can relate to him. His father figure approach to coaching has created a team that would do anything to make him proud and in return they gave him a Super Bowl ring.
