Star Richmond forward Jack Riewoldt is banning himself from media comment after the attention paid to his omission from Richmond’s leadership group.
Riewoldt said he is upset that the focus this week has been on him missing out, rather than key defender Troy Chaplin being made one of five on-field leaders.
“This is off my own bat,” he said.
“I thought about it at the end of the season, and the club’s going in a pretty strong direction and starting to come into some pretty big years.
“If I can’t be portrayed the way I want to be portrayed, then I will give it a bit of a miss.”
Riewoldt said he would give up his semi-regular television and radio roles.
The Tigers also left Dylan Grimes out of the leadership group, but Riewoldt said the lack of recognition for Chaplin had prompted his decision.
“He didn’t get the recognition he deserved from the media and from the outside world, so that was the thing that sort of cut me a little bit deep,” Riewoldt told Gold FM.
Tigers teammate Bachar Houli took news of Riewoldt’s self-imposed ban with a grain of salt.
“I think that should be one thing that comes in one ear and goes out the other with Jack,” Houli said.
“Jack is extremely passionate, he’s a little bit upset with the result, but with Jack we know what sort of attitude, what he brings to the table.
“We know his on-field leadership is going to be there and his off-field leadership is going to be there.”

"This was a three-minute ten monologue, where he was talking about Dusty, who featured in that monologue for 16 seconds!"
Richmond supporters are certainly taking it as a yes!
Nick Watson isn't short on confidence!
After a frustrating day, Tom Lynch let it all out at three quarter time.
Fortunately for Richmond supporters, Nick Watson missed his kick at goal after being awarded an iffy high-tackle free kick.
