My tipping this year has been woeful. By Round 4 I should be up there with the big boys. At least averaging five. But is hasn’t panned out like that.
I started off the year by picking 5/8 in Round 1. Round 2 was 4/8, and the same again in Round 3. Hey, at least I was managing a 50-50!
Alas, rounds four and five ended that with an ear-splitting ‘KaBoom’. Two out of eight? Twice?
Now, don’t get me wrong, I love that all teams could be there to play the finals, and I love that there isn’t a huge disparity between the top of the ladder and the bottom, but I should be doing better.
This week my goal is to at least claw my way back to my 50-50 average. It’s not a huge ask is it?
I have employed the Magic 8-Ball as my advisor. After all if it’s good enough to be president Obama’s advisor it certainly is good enough for me.
My first question: Will Penrith win?
Magic 8-Ball: Signs point to yes.
I’m thinking this is going to be a great week in tipping. Why haven’t I employed the Magic 8-Ball sooner?
Tip one – Penrith.
Will Brisbane beat the Titans?
Magic 8-Ball: My sources say no.
Tip two – Titans. This is going to be super easy.
Will Canberra win?
Magic 8-Ball: Most likely
What? Likely? I couldn’t have answered that for myself any better. I decide to ask a more specific question.
Me: Will Canberra beat the Knights?
Magic 8-Ball: Signs point to yes.
Much better! Why couldn’t you have just said that in the first place?
Tip three – Canberra.
Can the Roosters beat the Eels?
Magic8Ball: Reply hazy, try again.
Back to the vague huh? I’ll leave this one for later.
Can Wests beat the Cowboys?
Magic8Ball: My sources say no.
Good.
Tip four – Cowboys.
Can the Sharks beat my boys (Manly)?
Magic 8-Ball: Don’t count on it.
Tip five – Manly (was there ever any doubt?)
Will the Bulldogs beat the Warriors?
Magic 8-Ball: Better not tell you now?
Hmm is it a secret? I ask nicely.
Me: Could you please tell me now
Magic 8-Ball: Most likely.
Again with the most likely. I need hard answers.
Me: Most likely isn’t cutting it, will they or won’t they?
Magic 8-Ball: Don’t count on it.
Tip six – Warriors
Will the Dragons smash the Storm?
Magic 8-Ball: Don’t count on it.
Hmmm back to the hazy replies.
Me: What if I am counting on it?
Magic 8-Ball: Most likely.
I am taking that as they may not ‘smash’ the Storm but it should be a win for the Dragons.
Tip seven – Dragons.
