It’s a tale of contrasts when the St Kilda Saints host the Gold Coast Suns at Etihad Stadium on Sunday in the final game of the round. Join The Roar for live scores and coverage from 4:40pm (AEST).

The Saints have been a bit average in recent weeks, dropping their last three on the trot, including the 145-point caning they suffered at the hands of the Hawthorn Hawks in Round 7.

Although they won three of their first five, the Saints are starting struggle, and will have to work harder if they want to maintain a respectable position on the ladder.

The Gold Coast Suns on the other hand are blowing the competition away in just their fourth year of AFL Footy. They’ve got a 5-2 record after seven rounds (and a bye), including their last three on the trot.

After recording their first ever win at Etihad Stadium a fortnight ago against the North Melbourne Kangaroos, they’re a genuine chance to make it two in a row at that ground today.

The Suns have won only one of the five matches played between these two teams, and have never defeated the Saints away from home. However, the wealth of young talent on their list is starting to show its worth, and the Suns will be confident they can better their record.

Tom Nicholls and Kade Kolodjashnij are confirmed outs for the Suns, both with knee trouble. Zac Smith may return for them to play his first AFL game since rupturing his ACL last year.

Harley Bennell is a player I’ll have my eye on this week. The former no. 2 draft pick was devastatingly good against North Melbourne two weeks ago and can use his pace and skill to outstrip the Saints midfield combination. In line for a blinder.

Can the Saints snatch an unexpected win? Or will the Suns take another step towards a maiden finals campaign?

Prediction
The Suns recent form and the talent on their list makes them clear favourites in my mind. The Saints aren’t without a chance, but they would need to improve markedly on the efforts they’ve put in over the last few weeks. The Suns also have an extra weeks rest, having had the bye last week.

Gold Coast by 36 points.
