As the AFL season reaches the half way mark, what pop song suits your club’s position in 2014?

Adelaide Crows: Brave by Sara Bareilles
I was utterly disappointed when Adelaide lost to Carlton as I tipped them. It’s simple with Adelaide, their ball movement and kicking forward is very poor and conservative. Their potent midfield, forward line and run off halfback leads me to sing “I just wanna see you, see you be brave.”

Brisbane Lions: Stay With Me by Sam Smith
That’s all that the Brisbane Football Club is asking from its fans to stay with them through difficult times. Even if it’s a rugby dominant state, “no it’s not a good look” when the Gabba is less than half full.

Carlton Blues: Bad by David Guetta ft Showtek and Vassy
“Why does it feel so good? So good to be bad.” Carlton has only had convincing wins over the Western Bulldogs in Round 5 and St Kilda in Round 8. Their other matches have either finished with a thrilling win or a miserable loss.

Carlton needs to beat a top-eight side by at least three goals to make them look like a possible finalist.

Colllingwood Magpies: Que Sera by Justice Crew
I chose this song looking at the Travis Cloke situation, I say que sera. The big forward may not be firing but “at the end of the day” the Magpies are sitting equal fourth on the ladder with the likes of Dane Swan, Dayne Beams and Scott Pendlebury in the midfield.

Essendon Bombers: Geronimo by Sheppard
“Bombs away,” puny because of their name and it’s the way a lot of the Bomber’s like to kick the ball inside 50. Young Joe Daniher always seems to be leaping up to try and take a mark while Jake Carlisle’s form won’t improve if the ball is continuously being kicked over his head.

Fremantle Dockers: Best Day Of My Life by American Authors
It’s a song for what the Docker’s are looking for. Ross Lyon has failed to deliver the best on the biggest day of his life three times now. There’s a lot of what ifs for the 2013 grand finalists who are on the quest to go one step better this year.

Geelong Cats: Happy by Pharrel Williams
The Cat empire rolls on and this would be the most fitting song to play as fans leave Simmonds Stadium.

Gold Coast Suns: Free by Rudimental ft Emile Sande
This song is about being young and bullied. Many thought last year Guy McKenna was not the right person to lead the Suns but now his team is gaining experience and the coach is free from criticism.

GWS Giants: Summer by Calvin Harris
There were signs that this young club would become competitive. Fast forward to the present with an average losing margin of 10 goals; the summer seems to be the best time of the year for the Giants.

Hawthorn Hawks: Turn Down For What by Lil Jon and DJ Snake
If Hawthorn were an NBA side, this would be the most appropriate song for them run out to. With key players out they have shown resilience and they aren’t turning down for anything in their premiership defence.

Melbourne Demons: Strong by London Grammar
“Excuse them for a while” as they are “caught in the middle” of a rebuilding phase. However, Melbourne fans must stay strong as there are signs of a positive future for the Demons.

North Melbourne Kangaroos: Create//Destroy by Art versus Science
It’s what the Kangaroos are week by week, they seem to be creating a premiership window, then the next week their performance will threaten their position as possible finalist.

Port Adelaide Power: Rather Be by Clean Bandit ft Jess Glynne
Top of the ladder and Adelaide Oval is rocking, where would they rather be?

Richmond Tigers: Love Runs Out by One Republic
Damien Hardwick keeps reassuring everyone he’ll “work it out.” The way things are currently going may see his love run out. If Richmond get back on track and make a desperate charge towards the top eight there could be “fifty-thousand clapping like one” at the G.

St Kilda Saints: Timber by Pitbull ft Ke$ha
I only chose this song based on the lines in the chorus. After an encouraging start to the season they’re “going down, I’m yelling timber.”

Sydney Swans: Fancy by Iggy Azalea ft Charlie XCX
The ‘Bondi billionaires’ create a fancy forward line as “you already know.” The Swans are also “in the fast lane from” a 2013 preliminary final to a 2014 grand final. And “who dat? Who dat?” B.U.D.D.Y.

West Coast Eagles: Problem by Ariana Grande ft Iggy Azalea
A song the Eagles can sing if they fix their poor efficiency in the forward 50. “One less problem without ya.”

Western Bulldogs: Say Something by A Great Big World ft Christina Aguilera
It’s simple. The Bulldogs must perform four convincing quarters to get wins, otherwise your fans may “give up on you.”
