World number two Novak Djokovic will be extremely confident of moving into the semi finals of Wimbledon when he meets Croatia’s Marin Cilic in the quarter finals tonight.

Djokovic, having just dispatched France’s Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in the round of 16, will be extremely confident in this encounter given his record against Cilic.

Nine victories, no losses, and having a serious psychological edge over the big Croatian should give him plenty to be happy about heading into this match.

Djokovic plays a much more complete game than Cilic, but as always at a Grand Slam, he will have to be close to the top of his game to take this match.

Cilic, on the other hand, will have to play out of his skin to take this contest. A nine-match losing streak against possibly the best all-court player in the world at the moment is no easy thing to upend, and the big Croatian will be hoping that his big serve and heavy ground strokes are on song, and that he gets some help from his favourite surface.

Cilic last defeated France’s Jeremy Chardy in straight sets – a tough opponent, but without the power or finesse of Djokovic. This will be Cilic’s biggest test of his career so far.

The almost two metre tall Cilic will take some hope from his coach, Goran Ivanisevic, who won Wimbledon in 2001 on the back of very similar weapons to Cilic, though it’s safe to say the 25-year-old will approach the net far less often than his mentor did.

It should be another fascinating contest at Wimbledon. Djokovic will be expecting to win, but as we saw last night from Nick Kyrgios, anything can happen.
