Pat Cummins and James Pattinson will train in Adelaide on Monday, as the young guns continue their respective returns from injury.

Cummins and Pattinson will take no part in the upcoming four-Test series against India, as Cricket Australia continue to carefully manage their workloads after stress fractures.

However, CA has flown the pair to Adelaide where they will work closely with bowling coach Craig McDermott.

Cummins, 21, is expected to feature in Australia’s World Cup campaign.

Pattinson, 24, is targeting next year’s Test series in West Indies and England.

They are considered the future leaders of the Australian pace attack, along with 23-year-old Josh Hazlewood and 24-year-old Mitchell Starc.

Hazlewood is currently gearing up for a likely Test debut this month, having been named in the squad for the first Test that starts on Tuesday.

Veteran Peter Siddle is expected to be preferred at Adelaide Oval, but with four Tests in the next month Australia will freshen up their attack at some point.

Allrounder Shane Watson was full of praise for Hazlewood, having watched him take nine wickets in the recent one-day series against South Africa.

“I know what he can do to the best batsmen in the world,” Watson said of Hazlewood’s form against the Proteas.

“Josh is an incredibly talented young bowler. He has got all the attributes to be something special, even now.

“He has got height, holds his height. He gets great bounce out of any wicket.

“How he controls (and) swings the ball out of his hand is well beyond his years.”
