The immediate Asian Cup future of injured Australian captain Mile Jedinak remains uncertain.
Jedinak missed the Socceroos’ 4-0 thumping of Oman on Tuesday night after suffering a sprained ankle in the tournament opener.
Australia’s hierarchy will wrestle with a decision whether to recall Jedinak for Saturday night’s encounter with South Korea in Brisbane.
Already certain quarter-finalists, do they save Jedinak for the knockout match or push him to return earlier?
“I’m not really sure,” said Mark Milligan, who replaced Jedinak in the holding midfield role for the Oman fixture.
“They are just taking it each day at a time and just making sure they do all the right things and have him back as quick as possible.”
Milligan, overlooked for Australia’s opening game, grasped his chance with a goal and a composed display against Oman.
But the Melbourne Victory captain knows his place in the Socceroos’ pecking order.
“Obviously I was quite aware that Mile would be playing and all I can do is keep working hard and when I’m asked to step in, try and do a job,” he said.
“I don’t mind playing second fiddle to the captain.
“You do what you have to do, which all the players have.
“All the boys, whether off the bench or starting, have known their role, it has been a little bit like clockwork.”
