Fan favourite here in Australia, and one of the most flamboyant players on the tour, Gael Monfils, starts his 2015 Australian Open campaign tonight against compatriot Lucas Pouille.

The flamboyant Frenchman is sure to provide much entertainment to the Australian Open crowd, yet can he go further in the tournament then he previously has?
Monfils has never gone further than the fourth round at the Australian Open and his best result in a Grand Slam was a semi final at Roland Garros in 2008.
In 2014, he made it to the third round of the Australian Open last year before making the quarter finals in the US Open and at Roland Garros. At currently 19th in the world, he has played nine Australian Open’s with limited success.
He does have a massive forehand and huge serve, which he will look to wow the crowd with this evening.
However maybe this year he can turn his record around after a fantastic 2014. Full of confidence and with the crowd at Margaret Court Arena, Monfils will look to start his open in a flamboyant fashion. Although knowing Monfils, this match will have some pretty big highs and some pretty dreadful lows. As with any match of is, it could be anything, so just enjoy the ride.
