Round 5 is nearing, which means we’re all trying to figure out the right trades to improve our side.

Coming in at number 1 last week was Robbie Tarrant, coming out to score 78 in his third game and as a result rose $96,500 in price. Massive win and will continue to generate cash.

At number 2 is another rookie-priced player, Nathan Krakouer. After scoring 82 in his first two weeks he was set for a big price rise on the weekend and came out to score 52, and rose $66,900.

Todd Goldstein, this year’s best ruckman so far, was number 3. He scored 92, his lowest score for the season but pretty much maintained his price, and 92 is a still a good ruck score in season 2015. His average remains over 120.

Swans midfielder Daniel Hannebery came out and scored over 130 for the third time this season with 144. His average jumped to 124.40 and went up 26,00 to be just under 600k.

Devon Smith came in at number 5 and scored just 88 (about 19 points below his average before that game), but by no means is 88 a bad score, especially in a Greater Western Sydney side that lost by as much as they did. Encouraging signs for him this season to maintain his average and be a top-six forward.

Special mention to Mark Blicavs, who scored 111 – his fourth game above 97 this season. If you have him, you’ve done well, as he now averages over 100.

Aaron Young scored just 43 but gained $33,000, at his awkward price and an average third game you would’ve done well to avoid him.

Now let’s get into this week’s best buys.

1. Josh Kennedy (MID, $547,100)
JPK is a well-known premium over the last few years, and has hit a cheap price of 547k. It looks to be about where he’ll hit his lowest for the moment. The 61 against GWS will be out of his rolling three-match cycle, and his other four scores were 127, 130, 118 and 105.

Has the Demons this week, which presents another opportunity for a 120+ score.

2. Patrick Dangerfield (MID, $522,800)
Danger, like JPK, has hit a very cheap price. Has topped the ton in every game this year except for the Crows versus Dees match, where Bernie Vince wore him like a glove. Other scores are 123, 109, 101 and 119.

Has very good scoring potential as we’ve seen in the past and has Gold Coast, St Kilda and GWS in the next three weeks. He won’t be this cheap for much longer.

3. David Mundy (MID, $593,200)
Is more expensive in comparison to Danger and JPK but worth the funds if you have them. Has five consecutive tons to start the season, scores being 119, 150, 102, 129, 133. Despite this is owned by less than 4 per cent of teams.

4. Jasper Pittard (DEF, $451,400)
Well, the first three were midfielders, now we have a defender to even it out. Was average in Round 1 with a score of 67 but has scored 130, 94, 102 and 104 in the last month. Looks like he’s coming into his own as a player and with the defence being hard to sort out this season, Pittard is a good type.

5. Brodie Grundy (RUC, $437,900)
Is no longer a real POD selection with ownership status just under 15 per cent, but is very cheap considering he’s averaging 105.5 over the last month. Jarrod Witts is back but expected by Collingwood fans to pinch hit in the ruck and mainly play down forward, we’ll see how it pans out, shouldn’t affect Grundy’s scoring potential.

Special Mentions

Jack Ziebell (FWD, $389,100)
Has hit a super cheap price and has a breakeven of 62 so he won’t be this cheap for long. With his score of four against Port Adelaide out of his three week system he isn’t a terrible option at his price, at worst-case scenario can be used on the bench as a forward backup once you upgrade the rest of your side.

Averages 100 taking away the Port game, with three scores from 80-89 and one at 150. Tackles a lot so quick guaranteed points are a good sign.

Josh Glenn (MID, $120,400)
A week early, but scored well on debut with 103. If you’re building a large sum in your bank and you want two upgrades next week, taking Glenn this week isn’t a terrible idea.

The Watchlist
Tom Rockliff will be coming way down, as will Rory Sloane, both have breakevens of 292 and 213 respectively. Steve Johnson is 430k with a breakeven in the 130s, could be a bargain when he starts showing 100-plus form. Brodie Smith at 455k has a breakeven of 168. Could be a bunch of cheap options over the next few weeks.
