After six rounds of the AFL season, the power rankings have changed somewhat. Instead of listing both positives and negatives for each side, they will be noted whether they are trending up, down or even so far in season 2015.

1. Fremantle Dockers (6-0) (LW: 1)
Trending up: For a team that was written off as too old at the start of the season, the Dockers are making a few media personalities look a bit silly. Favourites at the moment.

2. Sydney Swans (4-2) (LW: 6)
Even: An interesting start of the season for the Swans, whose only shock loss came at the hands of the Bulldogs. Set up very nicely for another Premiership tilt.

3. GWS Giants (4-2) (LW: 8)
Trending up: Remember when people thought the Gold Coast would make the finals before GWS? How wrong were they? A club-defining victory over the Hawks last weekend has Giants fans already planning their September schedules.

4. West Coast Eagles (4-2) (LW: 9)
Trending up: I was one of the many that criticised the Eagles for being ‘flat track bullies’. I stand very much corrected. They were brilliant against the Power on the weekend, and took away a very deserved win.

5. Port Adelaide Power (3-3) (LW: 2)
Trending sightly down: It’s by no means a season-ender, but to have lost two of their first three home games at what is meant to be a ‘Portress’ is concerning. Luckily, their next seven weeks are about as easy as they come.

6. Hawthorn Hawks (3-3) (LW: 3)
Trending slightly down: Blame Luke Hodge and Jordan Lewis if you want, but the Hawks just looked off the pace at times against the Giants. If you’ve got a bit of speed on your list, you’re going to give the Hawks massive problems.

7. Adelaide Crows (4-2) (LW: 7)
Trending slightly up: The Crows started as well as any team in the comp, but their last three weeks have been slightly disappointing. Having said that, they’re in a position to improve on last year’s finish, so I’ve got them trending up.

8. Western Bulldogs (4-2) (LW: 4)
Trending up: Before an embarrassing loss to the Saints, the Bulldogs were the talk of the AFL. Despite missing key guys Tom Liberatore, Dale Morris and Mitch Wallis, the Bulldogs did a number on the Swans in Sydney, something that not many teams can brag about.

9. North Melbourne Kangaroos (3-3) (LW: 10)
Trending slightly down: After a preliminary final last year, the Kangaroos are just coasting along at 3-3. They’re beating the teams below them, but they have to start taking some impressive scalps if people want to take them seriously.

10. Geelong Cats (3-3) (LW: 12)
Trending down: I think the ‘dynasty’ might be over in Geelong. Sure, they were very good against the Magpies on Friday Night, but let’s not forget that their other two victories are against the Tigers and the Suns.

11. Collingwood Magpies (4-2) (LW: 5)
Trending slightly up: Considering the preseason predictions for this club, they’re certainly trending up for this season. It’s still early, and there’s still every chance that they’ll continue to fall down the ladder, but 4-2 after a six games is a nice little record.

12. St Kilda Saints (2-4) (LW: 15)
Trending up: They’ve mixed equal amounts of really good and really bad this season, but they’re already looking better than the insipid showing they put in last year. Any team that can haul in a 50-point halftime deficit has some talent.

13. Essendon Bombers (3-3) (LW: 11)
Trending down: I’m just about ready to put a big cross through Essendon’s season, particularly in the wake of the news that WADA will appeal. The Bombers have looked very bad for three weeks now, and probably should be on a three-game losing streak.

14. Melbourne Demons (2-4) (LW: 13)
Trending slightly up: The Demons have played three bad halves of football this year: the second half against the Giants, the second half against the Dockers, and the first half against the Swans. Apart from that, Paul Roos has this club playing very competitive football.

15. Richmond Tigers (2-4) (LW: 14)
Trending down: The winning streak at the end of last season masked a lot of major issues at Richmond, and they’re starting to rear their ugly head again.

The Tigers don’t seem to have any pride in their jersey, and another bad loss to the Kangaroos has Damien Hardwick firmly on the hot seat.

16. Gold Coast Suns (1-5) (LW: 16)
Trending down: This was supposed to be the season that the Suns challenged for finals. Instead, they’ve got only one win from their first six, and the draw isn’t opening up for them any time soon. Maybe firing Guy McKenna was a mistake.

17. Brisbane Lions (1-5) (LW: 17)
Trending down: There was so much hype surrounding this club heading into the season, but they’ve only played one good game thus far. The midfield is serviceable, but the lack of key position players is becoming a bigger problem that expected.

18. Carlton Blues (1-5) (LW: 18)
Trending down: There’s a very good chance that the Blues are the worst team in the competition. It’s time for Mick Malthouse to go.
