The Roosters further solidified their legitimate claim to 2015 NRL premiership contention with a 33-8 victory over the Wests Tigers at ANZ Stadium on Friday night.

The Tigers have had a tough time against the Roosters in the last few seasons and Fridays match was another example.

The game was a relatively scratchy affair with numerous mistakes on both sides. The Tigers defence held admirably throughout the first half with many Roosters attacks on the line kept out.

Daniel Tupou scored the first try for the Roosters after twenty minutes with a miraculous put down avoiding the sideline with his left foot for a one-handed placement. The Tigers quickly returned fire with a slick try from in-form fullback James Tedesco.

Shaun Kenny-Dowall’s off field dramas imposed an identifiable laziness to the Roosters structure early in the match, and manifested itself in sloppiness in other patches.

The game was also filled with instances of brilliance from the tricolours, and quality individual performances. Siosiua Taukeiaho had a quality game with bursting runs through the middle of the Tigers ruck.

Blake Ferguson once again affirmed his strength on the wing paying back the support he has received from Roosters bosses and youngster Brendan Elliot ended the game with double on the scoreboard.

The second half saw the Roosters take control of the match as the bookmakers had anticipated. The Tigers never let themselves into the contest with their play punctuated by costly mistakes.

On two occasions Pat Richards kicked the ball out on the full on the restart, handing the Roosters penalties and field position straight after scoring. The Roosters confirmed their free flowing style of rugby league towards the end of the game with offloads and line breaks coming in numbers.

The concluding five minutes was soured by a swinging arm by Martin Taupau on James Maloney who had succumbed in the tackle.

Taupau took the rest of the game off and was placed on report for his troubles. Aidan Guerra enjoyed the man of the match prize on his 100th NRL game. It was far from the most clinical display from the Roosters and far from a disgrace from Tigers.

Both will need the week to reassess, the Roosters for a title tilt and the Tigers avoidance of the wooden spoon.
