Novak Djokovic is looking to make his ninth successive US Open semi-final when he takes on Feliciano Lopez in the quarters. Join The Roar for live scores from 11am (AEST).

Djokovic has been part of the final four in the men’s singles at the US Open since 2007. During this run he has made five finals, winning the 2011 title.

By contrast this is the first time Lopez has made the quarters at the US Open, and while the Spaniard has done it three times at Wimbledon he has not made any semi-finals.

Still, it has been a career-best season for the 33-year-old.

In March he climbed to his highest ranking of 12, and a win today would move him to 14 in the world, and potentially in the top 10 if he makes the final.

Standing in his way though is the toughest test in tennis, with the Spaniard losing all five meetings and taking just one set against Djokovic.

If the Spaniard is any chance of beating Djokovic, his first serve must be around 65 per cent. He also needs to match Djokovic at the baseline, and hit a lot of forehand winners.

Prediction
Djokovic is the favourite. He should break down Lopez comfortably and win in three or four sets.
