Coming off consistent results, Everton will be looking to continue their impressive run over third-place Manchester United, and leapfrog the Red Devils on the Premier League table.

Everton are coming off a draw in the Merseyside derby against Liverpool, after Romelu Lukaku’s equaliser late in the first half cancelled out Danny Ing’s early header to ensure the Toffees came out of the match with a point.

Despite positive results in their last few fixtures, Everton have only managed to win one of their last six games at home.

Their last home win was an impressive 3-1 dismantlement five weeks ago against Chelsea.

However, Everton have a positive record at home against Manchester United, having defeated the Red Devils in their last three games at Goodison Park, keeping a clean sheet in all of them.

After four straight wins, Manchester United crashed and burned in their last fixture against Arsenal.

The Red Devils conceded three early goals against the Gunners at the Emirates, leaving North London licking their wounds after a 3-nil loss.

Wayne Rooney will be eager to get back on the scoresheet, the striker has not scored a Premier League away goal in his last 17 games, and hasn’t found the net at Goodison Park since April 2007.

Anthony Martial will also be looking to impress, United’s new signing started off firing before disappointing performances in his last two games.

The last time Everton and Manchester United locked horns was back in April. James McCarthy, John Stones and Kevin Mirallas all found the net for the Toffees as Everton demolished the Red Devils 3-nil at home.

On paper, these two sides seem evenly matched, although United will have more quality on the pitch. The last team to defeat the Red Devils four times in four games was Everton back in 1984 – 1987, although do not expect history to repeat itself.

United will be looking to prove a point, knowing that a win could potentially have them heading into the next gameweek in top position, although Everton will be desperate for that top-four spot.

Prediction: Everton 1 – 1 Manchester United
