Nick Kyrgios‘ first match at the 2016 Australian Open will come on Day 1 – Monday, January 18 – at Hisense Arena where he will play unseeded Spaniard Pablo Carreno.

It is the first and only night match at Hisense Arena on Day 1, starting after the completion of the previous match between Yulia Putintseva and Caroline Wozniacki, but not before 7pm AEDT.

The only Australian playing at that time, Kyrgios’ match will likely be the prime focus of Channel Seven’s live broadcast, though attention may cross to Roger Federer at Rod Laver Arena or Maria Sharapova at Margaret Court Arena depending on how their matches progress.

Seven’s coverage of the Australian Open is not only available live on TV but also online through a free live-streaming service.

Kyrgios did pull out of the Kooyong Classic due to an ankle injury, but will be fit to take to the court at the Australian Open.

Kyrgios enters the tournament as the 29th seed, while his opponent Pablo Carreno is currently the world No.89.

Carreno has never made it past the first round of the Australian Open before despite featuring in both the 2014 and 2015 tournaments.

Kyrgios enters the match as the clear favourite, currently $1.08 with betting companies compared to Correno who is out to $8 to win.

Should he win through, Kyrgios will find himself up against the winner of the match between Yoshihito Nishioka and Pablo Cuevas, who both enter the tournament unseeded.

Kyrgios’ first seeded opponent, should they both win through, will most likely be the sixth seed Tomas Berdych, in the third round.

If he can progress further on from there he could find himself up against 12th seed Marin Cilic in the fourth round, followed by third seed Roger Federer in the quarter-finals.

Of course, that’s all hypothetical at this stage of the tournament.

The Roar will have live scores or live blogs of all of Kyrgios’ 2016 Australian Open matches, and video highlights available via Roar TV.
