Switzerland’s Belinda Bencic is a rising star on the WTA tour and will be favoured to seal her passage into the Australian Open third round when she faces Hungary’s Timea Babos. Join The Roar for live scores from 1pm (AEDT).

After enjoying a breakout 2015 season, Bencic possesses the potential to solidify herself as a contender at grand slam level.

Bencic won two tournaments last year, at Eastbourne (defeated Agnieszka Radwanska) and Toronto (defeated Simona Halep), to end the year inside the top 15 on the WTA rankings.

Her Australian Open campaign thus far has been smooth, registering a straight-sets victory over American Alison Riske in the first round.

Babos meanwhile had to work hard to get past British player Heather Watson, but the Hungarian competed well and earned a hard-fought 6-7, 7-5, 7-5 victory.

It was a great win for Babos, given that she came back from a set down against Watson, proving she has the fighting qualities required to compete against Bencic.

Although Bencic starts a warm favourite, this is a potential danger match for the talented Swiss player. Babos will not beat herself and is also approaching the prime of her career.

Bencic and Babos have never faced each other at tour level, but one expects this contest to perhaps go to three sets before Bencic eventually prevails.
