John Millman will have his work cut out for him in the second round of the 2016 Australian Open as he takes on world number 38 Gilles Muller. Join The Roar for live scores from around 5pm (AEDT), after Fernando Verdasco versus Dudi Sela.

Millman got lucky in his first-round match-up. Playing Diego Schwartzman, the Australian dropped the first two sets and was looking well and truly out of the contest, before Schwartzman began to struggle with injury.

After Millman bounced back in the third set, taking it in a tie-breaker, he raced to five games to love in the fourth before Schwartzman was forced to retire.

Millman’s form in the lead-up to the Australian Open wasn’t fantastic based on his two matches in Chennai and one at the Sydney International.

In Chennai, it was a straight-sets loss to Roberto Bautista Agut in the second round, then he was bundled out by Tommy Robredo, also in straight sets, at Sydney. Howeve Millman has a better record on hard courts than any other surface.

Muller meanwhile, was also knocked out in the second round at Chennai, then at the Sydney International he recorded wins against Borna Coric, Dominic Thiem and Jeremy Chardy, before being knocked out by Grigor Dimitrov.

Muller’s first-round match, against Fabio Fognini, was a four-set victory. Each set ended in a tie-breaker, and after winning the first two he dropped the third, before getting back in the last set.

The pair have previously met on one occasion, with Muller recording a straight-sets victory in Stockholm late last year.

Prediction
Millman will put up a fight, however it is hard to see him overcoming Muller’s skill and experience.
