Expect Andy Murray and David Ferrer to leave nothing in the tank today as they face off for the right to play in an Australian Open semi-final. Join The Roar for live scores from 2:30pm AEDT.

Two of the most competitive players on the ATP tour collide this afternoon as former Wimbledon champion Murray squares off against former French Open finalist Ferrer.

Ferrer is yet to drop a set in the tournament thus far and has registered some very impressive wins over now retired Lleyton Hewitt and the big-serving John Isner.

Murray meanwhile dropped a set in the third round against Portuguese player Joao Sousa before winning in straight sets against Australian Bernard Tomic.

Although Ferrer appears to be in the better form, Murray still starts a warm favourite today given his strong head-to-head record over the Spaniard.

Murray currently leads the head-to-head 12-6 and the British star has an imposing record over Ferrer on hard courts.

As competitive and tenacious as Ferrer is, Murray plays a very similar style and is thus able to counter the Spaniard’s competitive nature with his own.

Like Ferrer, Murray also moves very well around the court and plays good percentage tennis. The Scot also possesses an important advantage when it comes to shot making, given that he is able to generate more power off his groundstrokes than Ferrer.

While the Spaniard will toil hard, Murray at his best has the Spaniard covered. If this match-up was on clay, Ferrer would be worth backing here but the British player’s imposing record at the Australian Open should see him secure victory.

Murray to win in four sets.
