Both Angelique Kerber and Johanna Konta will appear in their first-ever semi-finals at a grand slam after they defied the odds and went on a fairytale finish to now sit just one step away from a final. Who will book a place in the final? Join The Roar for live scores from around 3:30pm (AEDT).

German seventh seed Angelique Kerber is coming off a massive upset having defeated the in-form Victoria Azarenka in straight sets 6-3, 7-5.

The world No.6 has now won eight of her last ten matches with her only losses coming at the hands of Azarenka in the final of the Brisbane International and during the second round of the Sydney International where she was forced to withdraw from the tournament citing injury.

Kerber has eased through the Australian Open after dropping her first set at Melbourne Park to Misaki Doi, she has recovered and has not dropped a set since after defeating Doi 6-7, 7-6, 6-3 and going on to defeat Alexandra Dulgheru 6-2, 6-4 in the second round, Madison Brengle 6-1, 6-3 in the third and Annika Beck 6-4, 6-0 in the fourth before she downed Azarenka.

The German is likely to progress to the semi-final and continue her dream run however, Sydney-born Johanna Konta won’t be wishing to stop her dream run either after she has reached the semifinals in what is her first ever appearance in the main draw at Melbourne Park.

Konta’s run through the Australian Open has been overshadowed by Chinese qualifier Zhang Shuai whom she defeated in the quarter-finals yesterday 6-4, 6-1.

The British Fed Cup representative has won just six of her last ten matches with losses at the beginning of the year to Wang Qiang and Dominika Cibulkova at the Shenzhen Open and Hobart International respectively.

Konta opened her campaign at Melbourne Park with a win in straight sets over world No.10 Venus Williams 6-4, 6-2 before going on to defeat both Saisai Zheng 6-2, 6-3 and Denisa Allertova 6-2, 6-2.

The world No.47 then met 21st seed Ekaterina Makarova in the fourth round where she held on to win after dropping the first set and going into a gruelling third set tiebreaker 4-6, 6-4, 8-6.

The pair have never played each other on the WTA Tour.

The winner will face off against either world No.1 Serena Williams or world No.4 Agnieszka Radwanska in the final.

Prediction
Johanna Konta will not be able to keep up with Kerber which will see the German go through to final and have a chance at winning her first career grand slam title.
