The Los Angeles Lakers look hopelessly outmatched when they take on their crosstown rivals the Los Angeles Clippers at the Staple Center. Join The Roar for live scores from the game, beginning at 2:30am AEDT.
This may only be a tale of one city but it is a tale of two very different teams with highly contrasting fortunes at this point in the season.
The Clippers are fourth in the Western Conference and have one of the best records in the league (30-16), while the Lakers are dead last in the West with the second worst record in the competition (9-39).
An already difficult proposition for the Lakers looks even moreso given they will be missing Kobe Bryant, sitting the match out to rest his sore shoulder.
The Clippers on the other hand will be missing Blake Griffin after he broke his hand in a scuffle with the team’s assistant equipment manager, and will be out for at least 4-6 weeks.
The Lakers are coming into this match having lost their last eight matches on the trot, the longest current losing streak in the NBA. Their last win came almost three weeks ago at home against the New Orleans Pelicans (95-91).
The Clippers on the other hand bring a two-game winning streak into this match with close-fought victories on the road over the Indiana Pacers (91-89) and the Atlanta Hawks (85-83) in the past week. Their most recent loss was against the Toronto Raptors (94-112).
The Clippers won the only other meeting between these teams so far this season on Christmas Day last year (94-84), and in fact come into this match with an eight-game winning streak against the Lakers.
Prediction: Even with Blake Griffin out, the Clippers are miles ahead of the Lakers. Clippers by 16.
