The Sydney Roosters pre-season just got a whole lot worse with the news that Jared Waerea-Hargreaves and Boyd Cordner could miss the opening 10 rounds of the NRL season through injury.

The club is currently in Manchester preparing for the World Club Series where Coach Trent Robinson confirmed Waerea-Hargreaves is still recovering from a knee injury sustained last year.

It was also announced that vice-captain Cordner will need surgery on a torn pectoral muscle.

“Boyd’s a critical player for us. You can’t replace a player like Boyd, but that’s life,” Robinson said.”

We’ve got to move on and deal with this game and the start of the season without him.

“As it’s only just happened, we can’t be sure on his recovery. It depends on how he develops.”

It’s another blow for Rooster fans who have seen star players depart including James Maloney and Michael Jennings as well as the Australia Day controversy surrounding halfback Mitchell Pearce.

Mitchell Aubusson and Mitchell Frei are among the players in contention for a call up when the Roosters take on St Helens on Saturday (Australian time).

Beyond that the Roosters will be praying for no more off-field dramas with a huge round one clash in the NRL against South Sydney just around the corner.
