Unfortunately for the Kings, their build up has been less than desirable, dominated by in house politics, pay disputes and discussions around the quality of the squad. This must have been distracting for the beleaguered franchise heading into the season.

At least now, with the first game upon us, the squad can focus their attention to on field performances and give themselves and their fans more positive avenues for discussion.

For Rugby followers who are not familiar with Currie Cup the Kings present many unknown quantities and on face value look to be facing an uphill battle against their visitors, the Sharks.

While the Sharks have suffered player turnover from last year, the du Plessis brothers most notable they have recruited well.

The best of this is the signing of three former Cheetahs, two of them Springboks in Coenrad Oosthuizen, Willie le Roux and Joe Pietersen, Pietersen being a welcome addition in hindsight given the injury to Patrick Lambie.

The popular Tendai Mtawarira, or beast to most, will lead the side from up front and a powerful pack will be complimented with plenty of pace and flair in the backline.

The exciting Paul Jordaan will be looking to finally overcome his injury concerns and live up to his promising potential in feeding flyers Odwa Ndugane and Lwazi Mvovo from centre.

Prediction

I simply cannot see the Kings keeping up with this more experienced and on paper at least, much stronger Sharks side.

Sharks by plenty.
