The New Zealand Breakers record of 11 straight wins in play-off games was finally broken on Wednesday night, now they must win Game 2, at home against the Perth Wildcats, to keep the series alive. Join The Roar for live scores and coverage from 5:15pm (AEDT).

The first game saw the Wildcats lead at all the breaks, yet only just hang on by the end of the fourth quarter, as the Breakers’ shooting failed them.

The end score read 82-76.

In a game dominated by defence, Perth had a slightly higher shooting percentage and limited their turnovers, particularly in the fourth quarter, which ended up being the difference.

Along with having Nathan Jawai – who had a monster game on Wednesday – to deal with, New Zealand couldn’t contain Damian Martin. He had nine points, ten rebounds, and a massive block at the end of the game that extinguished the Breakers.

For New Zealand, Mika Vukona was ever reliable, with 11 points, while Cedric Jackson added six rebounds.

Corey Webster scored 19 points, but shooting just seven of 22 from the field suggests he should have looked for other options.

Prediction
The five games played between the Breakers and Wildcats this year have all been won by the home team, so New Zealand should get the job done, particularly if they get a fast start.
