The Titans have had a shocking offseason, losing Nate Myles, James Roberts and Daly Cherry-Evans (kind of).

Add to this key young half Kane Elgey being ruled out for the season, and Gold Coast find themselves way down the pecking order heading into the season.

As one of three teams that are considered to have no chance, it could be a long season on the holiday strip.

The Knights’ only offseason move of any consequence was the signing of halfback Trent Hodkinson. After a horror season in 2015, finishing with the wooden spoon, Newcastle are keen to get off on the right foot in 2016.

The Titans have named a club-first halves pairing, with Tyrone Roberts and Ash Taylor to guide the team around the park.

Both Nene MacDonald and Luke Douglas are unavailable, meaning Nathan Davis and Leivaha Pulu get their first chance at NRL level. Chris McQueen will also make his Titans’ debut, while Ryan James will surprisingly start off the bench. Will Zillman is in doubt, with new recruit John Olive the favourite to get his spot.

The Knights feature seven new faces in their Round 1 squad. Pat Mata’utia gets his first NRL start, at centre, with Jaelen Feeney the fullback.

Jacob and Daniel Saifiti will rotate through the forward pack, and David Bhana has been named on an extended bench. Also making their first appearance are recruits Pauli Pauli and Hodkinson. Lachlan Fitzgibbon is expected to be the unlucky odd man out on the bench.

Prediction
The Titans should have just enough to get it done at home.
