The San Antonio Spurs are out to get another win when they host a Miami Heat side hanging onto their first-round home final. Join The Roar for live scores from 11:30am (AEDT).

The Spurs suffered a shock loss to the Charlotte Hornets on the road in their last match, but it appeared little more than a stumble given their form leading into the match.

San Antonio had previously been on a six-game winning streak, which included the massive scalps of the Golden State Warriors, Los Angeles Clipper, Oklahoma City Thunder and Chicago Bulls. Despite the fact that all of them were at home, a streak like that at this point of the season builds huge confidence for the playoffs.

In the game against the Warriors, it was all defence from the Spurs as they limited the league’s highest scoring team to just 79 points – 35 points below their season average.

It leaves the Spurs four games behind the Warriors, and it is likely they will have to settle for second place.

The Heat meanwhile, sit in third place, nine games off the pace in the Eastern Conference being set by the Cleveland Cavaliers. While their hopes of finishing in the top two are dashed, the battle for a home quarter-final rages on.

There is only half a game separating the Heat, and the Charlotte Hornets who sit sixth. Any of those teams could easily finish in the top four.

The Heat have been playing like they are desperate for victories as well, starting to turn things around in their last two matches. A huge win over the Cavaliers a few days ago paved the way, before they went on the road and defeated the New Orleans Pelicans in their last match.

The Spurs defeated the Heat in their only match so far this season by 18 points away from home. With LaMarcus Aldridge and Kawhi Leonard lighting up, scoring 51 points between them, it was always going to be a bridge too far for Miami.

Prediction
Despite the desperation likely to be shown by the Heat, and the fact they are in some strong form, the Spurs are still yet to lose a home game yet this season and that isn’t likely to change.

Spurs by 14.
