The Golden State Warriors are expected to be in for an easy win when they host the Washington Wizards, who are running out of time to qualify for the playoffs. Join The Roar for live scores from 1:30pm (AEDT).

The Warriors are still on the hunt to claim the best ever record in an NBA season, looking to eclipse the 72 and ten Chicago Bulls of 1996. Sitting with a record of 66 wins and seven losses, Golden State can afford to lose only two of their remaining nine games to break the record.

The Warriors play six of their remaining nine games at home though, and are still yet to lose there this year.

Since a loss to the San Antonio Spurs last week, the Warriors have won four straight, with the best of those being a 16-point victory over the Los Angeles Clippers.

Golden State need to work hard on their defensive game and find ways to score against the Spurs. The teams are likely to participate in the final of the Western Conference, and every game from now until then has to be shaped at building for that.

With two games against the Spurs next week, the Warriors need to be getting their structures right, and doing the basics.

The Wizards on the other hand, are still in with the slimmest of shots at making the playoffs in the Eastern Conference. Such has been the closeness, they sit ninth place with a record of 36 wins and 37 losses, only 16 games back from the first placed Cleveland Cavaliers.

Despite that, the gap to the eighth placed Detroit Pistons has begun to open up and now sits at 2.5 games. With only nine games left they must make winning a habit and hope other results fall their way.

Of course, the Wizards haven’t exactly been doing themselves any favours recently, going down in two of their last three games – both at home – against the Atlanta Hawks and Minnesota Timberwolves.

John Wall has been the man for the Wizards, and tonight he has to take on Stephen Curry – if the Warriors decide not to rest any players that is. Wall is averaging double-double numbers and must pull off something similar.

The sides have already met once this season, with the Warriors taking that on the back of a huge performance from Curry.

Prediction
The Warriors, not announcing who is resting and who is playing, should get the job done, but that could all change if they swing last-minute changes.

Warriors by 2.
