Here is the AFL team of the round for Round 1, 2016.

Back pocket: Jason Johannisen (WBD)
Johannisen played the best game of his career against the Dockers in Round 1 having 35 disposals and taking nine marks. Provided a lot of drive out of the Bulldogs backline.

Full back: Alex Rance (RICH)
The premium defender in the competition is at the peak of his powers. Rance had 20 possessions and took seven marks to make a one man wall in the Richmond backline.

Back pocket: Robert Murphy (WBD)
The veteran Bulldog defender just keeps getting better. Was part of the tidal wave of run that came from the Dogs defence against the Dockers.

Half back: Heath Shaw (GWS)
Just another day at the office for the leader of the GWS defence with 30 disposals and seven marks.

Centre half back: Tom McDonald (MEL)
McDonald is the rock of the Melbourne backline. Not only does he stop his opponents but he can be an attacking weapon.

Halfback: Shane Biggs (WBD)
The former Swan had a monster game with 35 possessions. A strength of the Dog is his foot skills.

Wing: Brad Ebert (PA)
The Port Adelaide running machine caped of a great game against the Saints with three goals.

Centre: Matt Priddis (WC)
The Lions could not stop the West Coast ball magnet as he accumulated a staggering 43 disposals and also five tackles.

Wing: Jack Steven (StK)
Already a duel St Kilda best and fairest winner, Steven started the climb towards a third with a 36-possession, five-tackle and one-goal game.

Half forward: Chad Wingard (PA)
The Port excitement machine showed he could get his hands dirty with nine tackles to go along with his three goals.

Centre half forward: Lance Franklin (SYD)
What a sight it was to see the big Bud strutting around the SCG again.

Half forward: Robbie Gray (PA) Another complete performance for the Port star with four goals and 26 disposals.

Forward pocket: Marc LeCras (WC) The West Coast veteran starts another season with a nine mark two goal game against the Lions.

Full forward: Josh Kennedy (WC)
Kennedy was an easy choice for the full forward position with a huge game, kicking eight goals, taking 16 marks and having 21 kicks.

Forward pocket: Jake Stringer (WBD)
The fourth Bulldog to make this week’s team. Stringer booted five goals from 12 kicks.

Ruck: Tom Hickey (StK)
A few contenders for the ruck position in Round 1. But 56 hit outs and 13 disposals was enough to get Hickey over the line.

Midfield: Patrick Dangerfield (GEE)
It is going to be hard for Dangerfield to ever top his first game for the Cats: 18 kicks, 25 handballs, five marks and five tackles.

Midfield: Luke Parker (SYD)
The Sydney battering ram showed his impressive aerial skills on the weekend with eight marks to go with his 40 disposals.

Inter: Gary Ablett (GC)
Any team with Ablett on the bench is pretty strong. A 34-disposal game would be a career high for a lot of players, but is just another day at the office for the little master.

Aaron Hall (GC)
Hall’s 36 disposals and two goals against the Bombers was enough to snatch best on ground honours from his captain.

Callan Ward (GWS)
Ward was arguably best on ground in a losing side.

Tom Mitchell (SYD) The young Swans midfielder can sometimes go unnoticed among the stars in the Swans midfield but 30 disposals and three goals is hard to ignore.
