Update: Coco Vandeweghe has replaced Madison Keys for the USA.

Australia enter the second and final day of their Fed Cup World Group playoffs tie against the United States of America in a precarious position.

After an incredibly bad day one where they dropped both rubbers, Australia now find themselves in a position where they must win both of the reverse singles matches – and the doubles later in the day to win the tie and be in the World Group come 2017.

Stosur herself will be just about disgusted with her efforts. She was up against Christina McHale, who was a surprise selection to play singles for the USA. After winning what was a hard fought first set, she then went from low to low and lost both the second and third set to drop the tie.

It was almost a must-win game for the Australians and Stosur after Madison Keys used her power and serve earlier in the day to take a commanding straight sets victory over Fed Cup debutant Daria Gavrilova. Like the second tie, that one started close with both players being broken early on but it didn’t take long for Keys to completely take over.

She only dropped two games in the second set, and will be confident of wrapping up the tie early and inflicting more pain on Stosur.

Stosur though, despite choking yesterday and looking well below her best should be able to deal with the powerful style of Keys a little better. Keys makes a lot of errors in her game if she doesn’t get it 100 per cent right, always seeming to search for every available centimetre on the court.

Even against Gavrilova she made a lot of errors, and if Stosur can keep her head screwed on, be patient and just focus on making Keys make mistakes then she should have the goods to take the win.

The pair have played twice previously, with Stosur taking both matches in straight sets. In saying that, they have never played on the clay court which should only tip the advantage further in the favour of Stosur. Don’t expect Keys to give things up easily though.

Prediction
Stosur should lift to the occasion here. She has the game to match the power of Keys, and under pressure should continue her winning ways against the World No.25.

Stosur in a hard fought three sets.
