After an unsuccessful campaign in Melbourne earlier this year, Agnieszka Radwanska’s quest to win her first ever Grand Slam begins with a first round match-up against Serbian Bojana Jovanovski. Join The Roar for live scores from around 10pm (AEST).

Second seed Radwanska is coming off a loss to Dominika Cibulkova at the Madrid Masters, having also made a semi-final exit at Stuttgart on clay in the lead-up to the French Open.

The Polish sensation has drawn a relatively easy section, with her highest possible ranked opponent ahead of the quarter-finals being a fourth round match-up against 16th seed Sara Errani.

Radwanska also has potential matches against 19th seed Sloane Stephens, who will do battle with Margarita Gasparyan in the first round, as well as 30th seed Barbora Strycova. Home-nation heroine Caroline Garcia is also drawn in the bottom section of the women’s singles draw.

Radwanska has won six of her last ten matches, with the 27-year old in prime position to extend that record with a win over Jovanovski.

Jovanovski is yet to win in 2016, having not taken the court since early February, when she lost to Margarita Gasparyan in straight sets at St Petersburg.

The Serbian is almost certain to crash out of the French Open, having not played in over three months and without any experience on clay since last year’s Roland Garros tournament, where she lost in the second round to Donna Vekic.

A strong run at Tianjin that saw her through to the semi-finals and a second round berth at Carlsbad means Jovanovski has won four of her last ten matches.

Radwanska and Jovanovski have met only once, a first-round meeting at the French Open back in 2012 resulting in Radwanska winning 6-1, 6-0.

The winner will take on either Lesia Tsurenko or Caroline Garcia.

Prediction
Agnieszka Radwanska will be far too strong.
