Shelby Rogers looks to cause another upset at the French Open as she takes on Garbine Muguruza in the quarter-finals. Join The Roar for live scores from 12 midnight (AEST).

Rogers, who is ranked outside the top 100 in the world has been a one woman upset machine so far in the second grand slam of the year, knocking out three seeded players in her first four matches.

Considering she has never been out of the second round at the French Open, and only once to the third round of any other grand slam (achieved in New York last year), this is completely new for Rogers.

She kicked off the tournament by beating 17th seed Karolina Pliskova in three sets after dropping the first and simply hasn’t looked back. After a straight sets victory in her only match against a non-seeded player – Elena Vesnina – she has defeated tenth seed Petra Kvitova in three sets and 25th seed Irina-Camelia Begu in straight sets.

It has been an incredible run for Rogers thus far, and her tennis has looked fantastic. Even when under pressure she has always been able to pull something out of the hat, and never allowed a match to get away from her.

Muguruza on the other hand has had a predictably easy run through the first four rounds, as expected for someone who is the fourth seed at any tournament – let alone a grand slam.

In saying that, she actually lost the first set in her first round match against Anna Schmiedlova. It was a bit of a worry for Muguruza at the time, given her lead up form had been less than impressive – only performing to expectations in Rome.

Since that first set though, she hasn’t lost a set with demolitions of Myrtille Georges, Yanina Wickmayer and 13th seed Svetlana Kuznetsova.

Prediction
Rogers has been in fantastic form and, despite Muguruza being one of the top seeds she hasn’t been truly tested yet. Whether she can rise to the occasion or not, remains to be seen and there are enough doubts to justify Rogers advancing to the semi-finals.

Rogers in three sets.
