Barton began his tournament with a win over Marco Trungelliti in qualifying before taking down Marcelo Arevalo and Karen Khachanov to take his place in the main draw of his first ever grand slam.

The Sydney local has managed to make his way into the top 200 on the ATP Tour for the first time in his career following a win over fellow qualifier Albano Olivetti in what was a marathon, with Barton coming out on top 6-7, 7-6, 6-3, 6-7, 14-12.

He has now won eight of his last ten matches, however, in the lead-up to Wimbledon he struggled.

Barton managed to crack the main draw at Ilkley but he soon made a first round exit after failing qualifying at Vicenza, Manchester, ‘s-Hertogenbosch and Nottingham.

His match against John Isner will be the most important of his career so far with the possibility of taking down a top seed and moving into the third round beckoning.

Isner is ranked 17th in the world and a win against Barton would see him jump Gael Monfils into 16th and positioned hot on the tail of Spaniard Roberto Bautista Agut.

The American won convincingly in the first round with a 7-6, 7-6, 6-3 straight sets victory over Marcos Baghdatis.

It came after an unsuccessful lead-in to the tournament with a second round exit at the hands of Gilles Muller at Queen’s following a win over Juan Martin Del Potro.

He will be eager to get a win and go deep in the tournament having never been past the third round at Wimbledon.

Isner and Barton have never played each other on the ATP Tour.

The winner will progress to a third round matchup against either Juan Monaco or twelfth seed Jo-Wilfried Tsonga.

Prediction
John Isner will breeze past Barton and end the Australian’s dream run.
