The Sharks need a win against the struggling Sunwolves to cement a finals place on Saturday morning (AEST). Join The Roar for live scores from the match, starting from 3am (AEST).

The Sharks are currently in the running to secure the wildcard spot from the South African group, but they need a win here otherwise they will be at risk of losing that spot to the Bulls.

With 39 competition points so far they’re just two ahead of the Bulls. Get the four points tonight and they will be beyond the Bulls’ reach, but if they draw or lose this match then the Bulls will only need a win over the Cheetahs on Sunday morning (AEST) to jump ahead and claim a finals spot.

The Sharks should be pretty comfortable though because the Sunwolves are not exactly a big challenge for teams at the moment, they’re at one win, twelve losses and a draw for this season so far, and will no doubt be glad to see the end of it when this game finishes.

The Sharks, boasting eight wins, five losses and a draw have certainly been one of the better teams in the competition this season, though they are definitely some way off the pace of those at the very top, like the Lions (11-3), or the vast bulk of the New Zealand sides.

This will be the first match ever played between these two sides, and at the Sharks’ home venue of Kings Park in Durban.

Prediction
Will the motivation to bugger up another team’s chances of making the finals drive the Sunwolves to a massive upset and their second ever win? No, probably not.

Sharks by 25.
