Australian Samantha Stosur will be hoping to return to New York with a bang as she faces off against Camila Giorgi. Join The Roar for live scores from around 2:30am (AEST).
Stosur is on a road to redemption and is quickly applying pressure on the top 20 as she paves a path in her quest to move up the rankings.
Since a second round exit at Wimbledon, the Australian’s US campaign got off to a sour note at Washington, exiting in the quarterfinals to no-name American Jessica Pegula after a win over Alla Kudryavtseva and automatic progression due to the withdrawal of Caroline Wozniacki.
Her Rogers Cup saw her knock off Heather Watson before falling to Daria Kasatkina, then packing for Rio where she exited at the hands of silver medallist Angelique Kerber in the third round.
Stosur’s Cincinnati tournament was short lived losing out to Barbora Strycova in the first round.
She now has a tough task ahead of her with Serena Williams drawn in the same section as her, a daunting task in her quest to win her second grand slam title since winning at Arthur Ashe back in 2011.
Camila Giorgi upset Eugenie Bouchard at Washington 7-5, 6-4, marching on to a quarter-final loss at the hands of Lauren Davis.
The Italian got out of the qualifying at Montreal, defeating Bethanie Mattek-Sands and Sloane Stephens before losing to fellow countrymen Roberta Vinci.
Since then, the world No.67 has failed to make her mark and has struggled at the US Open in the past reaching the second round last year, the first time she has done so at Arthur Ashe apart from a 2013 charge that saw her move through to the fourth round.
Giorgi and Stosur have never played each other before.
The winner will meet either Zhang Shuai or Aussie wildcard Ellen Perez.
