The Champions League and Europa League games midweek had their ups and downs. But there were some shocking results – and some were a little surprising. Let’s have a look at few of those.

Tottenham 1-2 Monaco
We will start with the UCL game between Spurs and Monaco. The French side are no pushovers but Tottenham were expected to get a positive result in their adopted UCL home – Wembley Stadium.
Spurs were two goals down within half an hour as Bernandro Silva and Thomas Lemar scored for Monaco.

Toby Alderweireld pulled one back but in the end it was only a consolation.

Juventus 0-0 Sevilla
Many might think this is not a surprising result but Juventus, who had such a successful transfer window this summer, should have performed way better than what we saw.

The Turin giants came into life just in the ending stages of the game after the introduction of Miralem Pjanic. Why he was on the bench against a good Sevilla side only Max Allegri knows.

Club Brugge 0-3 Leicester City
’Surprising’ is the term we can use for Leicester City under Claudio Ranieri. Even after a few disappointing results in the Premier League, the way in which Foxes brushed aside the Belgian side is remarkable.

A 3-0 win away from home in a Champions League game is always a massive result. Marc Albrighton started the scoring while a brace from Riyad Mahrez confirmed the result. When you consider the fact that it was their first UCL game it makes it even more surprising.

Feyenoord 1-0 Manchester United
If you think playing in the Europa League is not good enough for a club like Manchester United, what about losing the opening game?

A lifeless performance from Jose Mourinho’s side surprised everyone. Even the big show Zlatan Ibrahimovic could not save them this time. Tonny Vilhena’s 79th minute strike was enough to seal the win for the Dutch side who were captained by ex-Liverpool player Dirk Kuyt and managed by ex-Arsenal man Giovanni van Bronckhorst.

Internazionale 0-2 Beer Sheva
Oh dear oh dear! Three-time Champions League winners and three-time Europa League winners Inter Milan suffered an embarrassing home defeat to the Israeli champions.

The away side scored twice in the second half to confirm a huge victory over the Italian giants. Nothing is going in favour of the new manager Frank de Boer as Inter are also struggling in Serie A.

This was a highly entertaining midweek thanks to results like these in Champions League and Europa League. What other results have you found to be surprising? Leave in the comments below.
