The Denver Broncos are 2-0 and have to be incredibly happy with their start to the season.

The Broncos are getting more than they ever bargained for out of sophomore quarterback Trevor Siemian.

CJ Anderson has just over 200 yards and a touchdown on the year.

Demaryius Thomas and Emmanuel Sanders have only just over 200 yards between them.

In all skill positions, the Broncos are doing what can only be described as “OK”.

The defensive secondary is doing its thing, as we all knew it would.

The well respected combination of Aqib Talib, Chris Harris Jr Darian Stewart and TJ Ward have given up just 195.5 yards a game.

But the secondary isn’t doing it all by themselves, and the offense certainly isn’t running on all cylinders yet.

So where are the Broncos winning games?

Both of the Broncos games so far this season have been won in the trenches.

Week 1 the Broncos patchwork offensive line came up against a scary defensive line with the likes of Charles Johnson and Kony Ealy and only allowed one sack on debutant quarterback Trevor Siemian.

The offensive line was enormous, Matt Paradis was the best centre of the week according to Pro Football Focus’ ranking system with an 89.5 and was said to have had one of the most monstrous performances from a centre ever seen by PFF.

That game also featured stand out performances from right tackle Donald Stephenson, who earnt himself a 79.6 on debut, with left tackle Russel Okung not far behind him.

That game also featured some fierce work from the Bronco’s defensive line where Superbowl MVP Von Miller received an 82.9 for his efforts backed by Shaq Barrett’s 80.1 in much the same way they dominated the superbowl.

Enter Week 2 against the Colts, and the Broncos had to show that Week 1 was no fluke and did so in style.

The offence did its part again but much the same as Week 1, it was in the trenches that the Broncos really took charge of the game.

The offensive line was outstanding this game, three of Denver’s highest rated offensive players were along the offensive line.

Left guard Max Garcia received an 81.2 and left tackle Russel Okung scored a 79.6.

The line allowed CJ Anderson and Devontae Booker to break out and consistently make gains to keep the offence moving along.

The real standout once again was breakout centre Matt Paradis who was once again the best rated centre of the week with an 85.8.

Securing Siemian in the pocket was key to winning for the Broncos.

Along the defensive trench, the Broncos were dominant.

Defensive ends Derek Wolfe and Jared Crick received ratings of 79.8 and 78.3 respectively.

Von Miller was the NFL’s best edge rusher this week, nothing short of dominant, Miller sacked Andrew Luck four times on Sunday, and added four hurries and a batted pass.

There were pre-season fears that the Broncos trenches weren’t good enough on offence and that Miller would slack off following his record contract, but that talk has only made the Bronco’s lines hungrier and opposing teams are paying for it.
