It has been quite a few years since Sir Alex Ferguson left his big boots to be filled by someone else but it looks Manchester United have just not found the right person yet.

David Moyes and Louis van Gaal had both failed in the past and the same looks to be continuing now under Jose Mourinho. The Red Devils had a decent start to the season winning the FA Community Shield against Leicester City and even players were getting the most of their opportunities.

The good times unfortunately didn’t last for long when they lost their first Manchester Derby at home to crosstown rivals City. Things were getting only worse as they suffered two consecutive defeats to Feyenoord and Watford. It was now when people started raising questions if the North-West club had put faith in the wrong man again.

Mourinho splurged more than a whopping £150m on transfers this summer and has yet not been able to bring the team to a certain consistency.

Frenchman Paul Pogba was bought back from Juventus for a world record deal worth £89m and Henrick Mkhitaryan and Zlatan Ibrahimovic were other big names in the ranks of players to have come in this summer.

Fans were dreaming of big things to come but none of that happened. Ibrahimovic, who was the main man for United in the initial games has now gone six straight games without a goal for the first time since 2007. Things have not been any good for Pogba too as he has failed to make any major impact since his arrival.

Mourinho, who benched Bastian Schweinsteiger and captain Wayne Rooney has come under scrutiny by critics to be brave and drop Ibrahimovic (who some would say is an unneeded prestige signing) and give youngster Marcus Rashford a chance to fill in the role of a striker.

The other thing that has grabbed everyone’s eye is the absence of Armenian winger Mkhitaryan.

Manchester United were said to be lacking pace in their gameplay and the reason for a fierce runner like Mkhitaryan being left out of the squad is just another big unanswered question.

Yes, it would take time for any manager to grow in a new team especially Man United in this case, the results so far have not met the expectations and it could only be too metaphorical to say that the ‘Fergie era’ will never come back and United are perhaps a cursed club.

It may have been rather right to have put trust in a man like Ryan Giggs a long-time insider of the club instead of a newcomer like Mourinho.

It’s definitely not an easy thing to steer the club in the same direction as its biggest ever manager did but then falling down on a languishing eighth position after ten league games is not a good sign. The Red Devils are still to find the right captain for their ship.
