Test hopeful Alex Doolan was forced to retire hurt on 202 after suffering late-onset concussion during Tasmania’s Sheffield Shield clash with Western Australia at the WACA Ground.
Doolan was struck in the jaw by a Jason Behrendorff bouncer just before stumps on Friday.
The 30-year-old Tigers batsman saw out the day, but he was diagnosed with concussionat night and ruled out of play on Saturday.
Tasmania started day three at 7-388 in reply to WA’s total of 262.
But with Doolan unable to bat, Behrendorff claimed the scalps of Simon Milenko (12) and Cameron Stevenson (0) to dismiss Tasmania for 402.
Behrendorff finished with figures of 5-80 in an impressive display, while Simon Mackin chipped in with two wickets.
Doolan was the second player to be diagnosed with concussion in the match after WA skipper Adam Voges was felled by a bouncer on Thursday.
Voges sent a huge scare through cricketing circles around Australia when he lost sight of the ball and was struck by a Stevenson bouncer.
The 37-year-old dropped to his hands and knees, before being helped off by trainers.
Voges is unlikely to bat again during the match, but coach Justin Langer said his star player still deserved to be selected for the third Test against South Africa if he can prove his fitness.
Doolan played the last of his four Tests in 2014, and his double century has put him in the frame for the day-night Test in Adelaide, starting on November 24.
Importantly, he peeled off his highest ever Shield score in front of new chairman of selectors Trevor Hohns.
